Blick auf Torba

Bodrum City

Bodrum is a town of white-washed houses decorated all over with bougainvilleas. In tiers the city is rising the green hills, overlooking a dazzling blue bay. The centre point of view is a medieval castle, built by the crusaders.

Here, where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean Sea, is one of Turkey‘s loveliest holiday resorts with long palm lined beaches and marinas, jam-packed with elegant yachts in summertime. Not far from town you can swim in unbelievable clear, warm tideless seas.

Especially skin-divers would not like to miss the numerous unexplored reefs with caves and majestic rock formations. Multicoloured sponges of all shapes and sizes, octopuses and other forms of aquatic life are found here usually.

Afterwards, you could rest relaxed in one of the various restaurants having delicious seafood with wine or some of the other famous Aegean specialities.

You should stroll along the marina, a popular place, where you can feel the pulsing hustle and bustle of this town. Yachts, running into port bringing tourists from all over the world or going out for a cruise. The Bodrum shipyards have been famous since ancient times and today the craftsmen are still building the traditional type of yachts: the pointed bow and stern (tirhandil) and the broad beamed and rounded stern (gulette). The latter, especially, is used for excursions and pleasure trips. The gulette is also used in the "Bodrum Cup Race" held every October.

Bodrum has a lively, friendly, bohemian atmosphere. Small galleries are the meeting place for the Turkish art community, famous for their relaxed, informal lifestyle. It will be impossible to be bored. There are many interesting and varied bars, restaurants, night clubs (some with cabaret), and of course, some of the best discos in Europe.
